What to look for after 40
For health, the CDC baseline is 150 minutes of moderate activity a week plus muscle strengthening on two days, and the Menopause Society gives the same aerobic target plus strength training twice a week for midlife weight. Walking is one of the easiest ways to reach the aerobic part.
So the app matters less than whether you keep using it. Three things help: a goal that starts from your own steps, a short finish line, and people who notice when you show up.
APEX: Walk & Water
Walk & Water runs three-day rounds Tuesday to Thursday. Your first two rounds are free. You join a team of two to four, hit a step goal sized to you and a water goal, and climb a live leaderboard. Teams rank on their average per woman, and winners go up Friday. Coach Josh walks every round on his own team.
- Good fit if: you want a weekly finish line, a small team and water alongside steps.
