What is Walk & Water?

Short answer

APEX: Walk & Water is a walking and water challenge app for iPhone and Android, made by Coach Josh (BodyByReason). Each round runs Tuesday to Thursday: you join a team of two to four, hit a personal step goal and a water goal, and climb a live leaderboard. Winners go up Friday. Your first two rounds are free.

Who it is for

Walk & Water is built for women who want to walk more and would rather not do it alone. It was made with women over 40 in mind, and anyone can join. Your step goal starts from where you are today, so a beginner and a daily walker both get a fair target.

Many women use it as their first step toward losing weight. It is not a diet or a medical program, and results vary from woman to woman.

What is free

Your first two 3-day rounds are free. That covers your team, the live leaderboard and your daily step and water goals.

The app also has optional add-ons called Train and Fuel. You don’t need them to join or finish a round.

How teams work

A team is two to four people: a friend’s team, your own, or one you join in the app. It gets a name, a crest and a spot on the live leaderboard. You can invite friends with a link.

Teams rank on their average per woman, not their total, so two friends can beat a team of four and every walker’s day counts the same. The board closes Thursday at midnight, Arizona time, and the winners go up Friday morning. A new round starts the next Tuesday.

The Weekend Summit

On weekends there is also the Weekend Summit, a shared virtual climb of Mount Everest for women who walked that week’s round. Everyone’s steps and water climb together from Saturday at midnight, Arizona time, through Monday night. It is one shared climb, not a race between teams.

Where your steps come from

The app reads steps from Apple Health on iPhone and Health Connect on Android, so iPhone and Android friends can be on the same team. A watch counts when it shares its steps with Apple Health or Health Connect. There is no direct Fitbit or Garmin connection. Water is one tap per glass.

Who is Coach Josh?

Coach Josh (Joshua Saunders) is the coach behind BodyByReason. He built Get Your BMR, the free calculator, and Walk & Water, the place to put that number to work.

He walks every round on his own team, on the same board, and he doesn’t always win. When you tap Chat with Coach in the app, he answers himself.

How it connects to Get Your BMR

Get Your BMR estimates what your body burns at rest and gives you a calorie target and a protein range. Walk & Water is the daily habit around that number: a walk, your water, and a team that notices when you show up.

Walk it with a team this week

Join a team of 2–4, walk & drink your water Tuesday to Thursday, and see the winners Friday.

Questions

Who makes Walk & Water?

Coach Josh (Joshua Saunders) of BodyByReason. The app is listed as APEX: Walk & Water Challenge on the App Store and Google Play.

Is Walk & Water free?

Your first two 3-day rounds are free. Train and Fuel are optional add-ons you don’t need for a round.

Do I need a smartwatch?

No. An iPhone counts steps on its own. On Android, a fitness app such as Google Fit or Samsung Health sends phone steps to Health Connect. A watch that shares with Apple Health or Health Connect also works.

Can iPhone and Android friends be on one team?

Yes. Teams have no platform limit: each person’s steps come from their own phone’s health app.

Is Coach Josh a real person?

Yes. He walks the rounds on his own team and answers Chat with Coach in the app himself.

Is Walk & Water a diet or a medical program?

No. It is a walking and water habit challenge. For medical or weight concerns, talk to your doctor.

I’m Josh. I built Get Your BMR so you could see what your body burns at rest, & I built Walk & Water so you’d have somewhere to use it with people who notice when you show up.

I walk every round too: same board, same three days, on my own team. I don’t always win. Tap Chat with Coach in the app & it’s me who answers.
